God is the Author of Marriage

As Catholics we believe something truly special about marriage. We are not entering into a contract written up by the courts but a covenant created by God. It says in the catechism paragraph 1603 that “God himself is the author of marriage. The vocation of marriage is written in the very nature of man and woman as they came from the hand of the creator. Marriage is not purely a human institution despite the many variations it may have undergone…the well being of the individual person and of both human and Christian society is closely bound up with the healthy state of conjugal and family life”

The way the light is streaming down into this church as they say their vows is a beautiful representation of God’s graces pouring out upon them and uniting them to each other.

My goal on your wedding day is to capture the beginning of your marriage with the reverence that such great a mystery deserves. It’s more than just the decorations, dresses, and drinks, it’s two becoming one!

By becoming one flesh, man and woman are taking part in God’s divine plan for themselves and creation as a whole. This clearly explains how marriage is much much more than a contract, and a wedding day is much more than the party and drinks.

This catechism paragraph is so encouraging because it affirms that it doesn’t matter what your day looks like from the outside, because there is something much greater happening within. There’s a freedom in knowing that whether you spend 5,000 or 50,000 on your wedding day, God is still uniting you two as one and going to work miracles through your vocation! Your marriage is important, not only to you two, but to your family, friends, and society who you will impact though living it out.

When choosing your wedding vendors, especially your photographer, planner, and videographer, it’s important that they know or are at least respectful of the fact that you believe marriage is something much more than a wedding day. Having vendors who understand and agree that your marriage is more important can help you keep the sacrament holy, not get bogged down by the little unnecessary details, or try and rush through the beauty of the Mass. As a wedding photographer who specializes in Catholic weddings, I pray for my couples throughout their engagement season that they may stay focused on their sacrament, not get caught up in the stress and anxieties that tend to surround wedding planning, and are able to enter fully into their Mass with open hearts! I capture your wedding day with all this in mind. My favorite part of your wedding is that I get to intercede for you during your Mass and receive the Eucharist!
